Executive Order 13061 established the American Heritage Rivers Initiative (AHRI) to help river communities meet some tough challenges with innovative solutions. The AHRI makes existing federal resources work more efficiently by cutting red-tape and lending a helping hand to acquire resources and assistance.
Together we can implement:
SUSTAINABILITY: New technologies are responsible for helping to shift river economies by attracting jobs and growing economic opportunities.
CULTURAL PRESERVATION: Historic and artistic alliances are forming along the rivers to preserve local heritage.
RIVER RESTORATION: Along the 14 AHRA rivers thousands of acres of tributaries and their watersheds are in need of attention and clean up.
RESILIENCY NETWORKS: Regional communication and support networks are being readied to respond to emergencies.
